Biden warns Trump and ‘Maga forces’ want to strip Americans of their rights
Former president Donald Trump heads to Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, today for his first rally of the midterm election season and since the FBI raided his Mar-a-Lago residence.
The ex-president is going to be campaigning for two of his endorsed candidates, Dr Mehmet Oz and Republican Doug Mastriano, who badly trails his Democratic opponent in fundraising and lags in polls.
Meanwhile, president Joe Biden is also set to be in the state for the Labor Day weekend as Pennsylvania turns into a political battleground.
Mr Trump’s rally comes after a Florida court released a full list of what was found at the former president’s Mar-a-Lago estate during the FBI search last month.
Included in the trove of documents found at the former president’s home were more than 100 classified documents, over 10,000 documents by law the property of the US government, and mysteriously 90 empty folders that once held extremely sensitive documents.
On Saturday morning, Mr Trump took to Truth Social to charge up his base ahead of the Pennsylvania rally and raged at the FBI, DOJ and Mr Biden, who he referred to as “cognitively impaired Democrat”.
Crowds begin lining up hours before doors open at Trump rally
A large crowd of MAGA supporters and Trump enthusiasts could be seen beginning to line up outside the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, more than an hour before doors were set to open at 2pm local time.
The former president is set to take the stage at 7pm, where he is expected to give a speech endorsing Republican candidates Doug Mastriano and Dr Mehmet Oz, both of whom are running on the GOP ticket in the gubernatorial and senate race, respectively.

Trump preps for rally by ranting against FBI and DOJ
Early morning rantings from the former president of the United States is not uncommon, but the abuses seem to be picking up steam ahead of his rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, where he is slated to stump for GOP gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano and Senate candidate Dr Mehmet Oz.
On Truth Social, the ex-president lambasted the Federal Bureau of Investigations, the current president of the US, and the Department of Justice in a series of posts that capped off with an accusation that the agents who raided his Florida resort last month had “riffled” through his wife Melania’s clothes.
“The FBI is totally corrupt. They blatantly used their power to get a cognitively impaired Democrat elected President,” he began. “BROKE INTO MY HOME, using a Radical Left Trump Hating Magistrate to grant approval, and indiscriminately STOLE everything within reach, including my Passports. They even “riffled” through the First Lady’s closets, dresses and drawers. They are an out of control group of highly partisan “mobsters,” a real threat to democracy!”

The one-term president later turned his attention to the Department of Justice, who he argued weren’t “any better than the FBI” and who he alleged “went after my supporters”, seemingly in reference to the Capitol rioters who have been handed down prison sentences in recent months for their involvement in the violent 6 January insurrection.

Trump amps up base ahead of Pennsylvania rally
Former president Donald Trump rose in the early hours to share his excitement about Saturday’s upcoming rally in Pennsylvania, taking to Truth Social to alert his base that they should “get there early” in order to secure a spot at the event where he is expected to stump for Republican candidates in the November midterms.
“Big Rally in Pennsylvania today. Get there early! Thank you to Newsmax, and others, for doing such a great job of T.V. coverage. The Ratings are incredible!” Mr Trump wrote on Truth Social early on Saturday morning.
The twice-impeached president also took a moment to commend his social media platform for its performance, which was recently reported by Fox Business Network to be staving off financial trouble after it reported that Truth Social’s parent company allegedly owed more than $1m to an internet infrastructure firm.
“TRUTH is doing really well. It has truly become our MAGA VOICE, but also a voice for the RINOs and Radical Left Lunatics,” wrote Mr Trump without citing any specific figures. “Engagements are far better, more interesting, and spirited than anywhere else,” he said, before comparing it to his previously favoured app, Twitter.
“I like it much better than Twitter, which is a complete mess.”
Mr Trump was permanently suspended from Twitter in January 2021.

Republicans furiously react to Biden call to reject Trump ‘extremism’
Furious conservatives launched a collective tirade against president Joe Biden after he used his prime-time address to the nation to warn about the dangers posed by the “extreme ideology” of Donald Trump and his adherents.
In an unusually strong and sweeping indictment of his predecessor, Mr Biden said Americans must “be honest with each other” and themselves about the agenda being pushed by an extreme element of the Republican Party.
Namita Singh has the story.

Trump rages at former AG, labels Barr a ‘pathetic RINO’
Late Friday night, Donald Trump called his former Attorney General Bill Barr – a man he once described as “one of the most respected jurists in the country” – as having “no guts” and a “pathetic RINO” after his once-ally went on Fox News to tear apart his defence of having secret papers at his home.
“Bill Barr had ‘no guts,’ and got ‘no glory.’ He was a weak and pathetic RINO, who was so afraid of being Impeached that he became a captive to the Radical Left Democrats,” Mr Trump said in a post on Truth Social late in the hours of Friday.
Earlier in the evening, Mr Barr had gone on Fox News to proclaim that Mr Trump’s defense for having classified materials in his personal residence at Mar-a-Lago was “reckless” and “unprecedented”.

“I think the driver on this from the beginning was loads of classified information sitting in Mar-A-Lago,” Mr Barr said on the right-wing news network. “People say this was unprecedented, well, it’s also unprecedented for a president to take all this classified information and put them in a country club, okay?”
Mr Trump shot back at his one-time ally on his own social media platform, digging up old wounds, such as Mr Barr’s refusal to say that there had been any evidence of widespread voter fraud during the 2020 presidential election.

Analysis: Biden is making defence of democracy itself a major campaign issue
On Thursday, President Joe Biden gave his major speech about the “soul of America” and the state of democracy in the United States in Pennsylvania, where Republican Doug Mastriano, a state Senator who wanted to delay the certification of the 2020 presidential election, is running for governor.
Mr Mastriano was also present at the US Capitol the day of the January 6 riot (though he says he left before the riot) and bused supporters of Donald Trump to Washington on that day. If elected this November, he could easily go rogue and attempt to block the certification of the 2024 presidential election results if the commonwealth elects a Democrat for president.
These were the MAGA Republicans that Mr Biden chose to warn Americans about in his primetime address about the state of democracy.

Trump threatens to ‘do something with’ Mitch McConnell
Former President Donald Trump fumed on Thursday after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell criticised his endorsements in Republican primaries for the US Senate.
“He can think that if he wants, but he shouldn’t say it,” Mr Trump said on the television programme American Sunrise. “But he says it. And the party is furious at him. We have to put up with him for a period of time, but eventually he’ll be gone. He’ll be gone. He’s bad news.”

Trump hoarded gossip on world leaders he didn’t like
Donald Trump relished collecting personal details about fellow world leaders during his time as president, according to a new report.
Insiders tell the New York Times that during intelligence briefings, the otherwise-bored commander-in-chief would perk up when security agencies relayed the innermost details they had gleaned about the lives of Canada’s Justin Trudeau, France’s Emmanuel Macron and Germany’s then-chancellor Angela Merkel.
